WASHOE, Nevada (May 30, 2026)–The teams of Jay Bushman-Matthew Bushman (Gross), Adrian Garcia-Scott Carmichael (Net) and Dana Whaley-John Gleave (Silver Net) won titles in the 2026 Men’s Team at Washoe event. The Nevada Golf Northern Region one-day tournament was held May 30, 2026, at Washoe G.C.–by Bill Bowman
The event featured a Modified Chapman format. Both players teed off. Players then switched golf balls and played from the location of their partners’ tee shot. The team then selected the best second shot and played an alternate shot format through the rest of the hole.

Gross
The father/son team of Jay and Matthew Bushman teamed up for a net eagle on the par-4 13th hole and went on to win the Gross title by two strokes.
The duo had just one birdie during the round to go along with two bogeys, but the eagle carried them to the win.
“The eagle was definitely the highlight,” Matthew said. “Dad hit it to about 130 yards off the tee and I trickled in a wedge for the eagle. That got us going.”
He said despite the lack of birdies, it wasn’t because of a lack of chances.
“We hit 15 greens so that was pretty solid,” Matthew said. “On the front nine we missed two four-footers so we made the turn at even with a birdie and a bogey. Then we made the eagle and just played decent golf coming in even though we had the one bogey.”
Matthew added it was also nice to win at Washoe Golf Club.
“It’s where both dad and I play most of our golf,” he said. “It was good to represent Washoe.”
Matthew said it turned out to be a solid day of golf.
“Father and son didn’t kill each other and we both played decent golf,” he said with a laugh. “It was just a great day on the course.”

Adrian Garcia and Scott Carmichael started their round slowly but definitely made up for lost time.
The duo started the round with back-to-back bogeys on the first two holes.
Following a par on the third hole, the team turned their game around…big-time.
They teamed up to birdie nine holes in a 12-hole stretch (two natural and seven net) and closed things out with a net eagle on the final hole to close out an eight-under-par 64 round and a one-stroke victory.
It was the first victory as a team for Garcia and Carmichael.
“Our nerves were so bad,” Carmichael said of the start. “We had been practicing so we were ready but we came out nervous.”
It turned around quickly.
“We were in a bind but we persevered,” Carmichael said. “It was just great. We started playing off each other very well. Adrian was hitting his irons very well and I started making some putts we had to make from five or six feet.”
He said the final hole wound up being one to remember.
“We were six-under with our strokes coming to 18,” Carmichael said. “We were hoping for one more birdie but when Adrian chipped in for eagle, it really solidified it for us.”
Carmichael added he thought the team was ready…but not for a win.
“We just decided to start doing these tournaments at Silver Oak,” he said. “And in that tournament, we had a really tough time. This week we had three practice rounds at Washoe and that got us ready for this. But I certainly never thought we were going to win the dang thing.”

Senior Net
Dana Whaley and John Gleave posted six birdies (one natural and five net) along with a net eagle en route to a two-stroke win in the Senior Net Division.
Gleave said the format was an interesting one.
“It was a different format than we are used to but it was still a lot of fun,” he said. “Once it turned into an alternate shot portion it was a little more challenging but we didn’t handcuff ourselves too often. We just had a pretty good day all around.”
Gleave added the net eagle, which came on the par-3 11th hole, was definitely a key.
“Dana hit a great shot into the par-3 that set up about a 20-footer for birdie…net eagle…which was great for us,” he said. “We both tend to be grinders and we had a few up-and-downs and a couple of long par-saving putts that kept the momentum going.”
Gleave added the partnership is getting stronger each time out.
“This is our first win this year,” he said. “Last year we won at Winnemucca so we just keep getting more comfortable each time out.”
