The team of Regina Quintero, Lori Elliott, Jean Walsh and Ruth Maxwell were three-under-par through their first five holes of the tournament and went on to win the Gross title in a playoff.
The team won the title on the first playoff hole.
“After the first day, we knew it was going to be a tough one,” Quintero said. “We trailed by one shot after the first day and then beat them by a shot the second day and that set up the tie…and the playoff.”
Quintero said the two days was a definite team effort.
“When you have players with lower handicaps and players with higher handicaps, it’s great to see that everyone has a chance to help the team,” she said. “There were times when Ruth and I struggled a little and the higher handicaps stepped up and made pars for us and that was huge.”
Quintero also said her team was quite the mix of players.
“We had a player from the south, one from central and two from the north,” she said. “It was quite the combination. We’re used to playing against each other so getting the chance to play as a team was quite unique. And everyone handled the pressure well and contributed.”
In the end, it came down to a playoff.
“We weren’t sure how the playoff was going to go but we wound up with all eight of us on No. 10,” she said with a laugh. “Ruth and I made pars and they had two fives and we wound up winning.”
Quintero also said the event was seemlessly run.
“Nevada Golf is doing a great job for all the golfers around the state,” she said.

Net
The team of Jane Lee, Lisa Lee, B.B. Harvey and Buffy Tang posted five net eagles the opening day and ran away with the Net title.
Jane Lee and Harvey both had two net eagles in the barrage that saw them open an eight-stroke lead after the first day en route to a 16-stroke victory.
Harvey said the team’s hot start, three-under-par after their first hole of the tournament, put the confidence in high gear.
“The first hole we sank two long putts and it was an exciting way to start,” she said. “Yesterday we had luck, good shots, good chipping and putting…everything was working for us.”
Harvey added with the big lead, the team went in with a different mindset.
“We wanted to play as well as yesterday,” she said. “But it wasn’t as good a day. We played pretty good but we thought that someone could play like we did yesterday so we just tried to play the best we could and see what happens.”
Harvey added the foursome plays together often and that helped their gameplan.
“We know each other’s game very well,” she said. “Everyone helped and that’s good. We made some mistakes, but in the end, it was a good team win.”
