Here we go with another Sue’s Rules with Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame rules official Sue May. She has the answers if you have the questions.
Question: My ball is in the General Area and a pitch-mark directly in front of it affects my line of play. May I fix it before making my stroke? If not, can I ask another player to fix it?
Sue’s Ruling: Not if the pitch mark affects your line of play, lie of the ball or stance.
If a player asks, authorizes or allows another player to deliberately alter physical conditions to improve their play: The player acting on the request will get the General Penalty as well as the player who requested it.
Question: I don’t know how it happened but I made a tee shot and my driver shaft broke in half. Can I replace it with my backup driver that’s in the trunk of my car?
Sue’s Ruling: The answer is yes if it broke during the normal course of play and not from abuse or anger. Normal course of play includes making a stroke or practice swing, putting it in or taking it out of a golf bag, dropping or leaning on it or if any other person or outside influence breaks it.
When replacing your club, you must not unreasonably delay play, add or borrow any club being carried by or for any other player who is playing on the course or build a club from parts carried by or for the player or any other player who is playing on the course.
