Scott Flanigan, representing the Southern Nevada Golf Association, went through a gauntlet of players to win the Net Division title.
Flanigan was ranked sixth starting the match play portion of the event. He beat No. 3 seed George Wolf, 2-and-1, in the first round of match play. He then dispatched No. 2 Ayden Frey, 2-up.
That set up his match with No. 4 Dennis Tressler and Flanigan came away with a 2-and-1 win to pick up his first state title.
“That’s a ton of golf to play,” Flanigan said with a laugh. “Now I’ve got to go back to my day job (Las Vegas contractor).”
For the three days of the tournament, he was simply looking at two factors: “I wanted to keep my heart rate down and have fun,” he said.
Mission accomplished.
“I just stayed focused and really concentrated on not getting upset with bad shots,” he said. “I just focused on the next shot and didn’t look in the rearview mirror…I kept looking ahead.”
That looking ahead helped him move into the match play portion with two solid stroke-play rounds.
“I was second after the first round and played really well,” he said. “The second round I finished OK and that got me into the match play and that was the main goal.”
In the end, the title came down to the 17th hole in the title match.
“I closed it out with a birdie on the 17th,” he said. “I had 168 yards in and hit an eight-iron. As soon as I hit it, I knew it was flushed. It was to about six feet and I made the birdie. It was a great way to end the tournament.”

Jason Koop, representing Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City, won a back-and-forth Senior Net match, beating David Golder of the SNGA, 2-and-1.
Golder had the lead twice on the front nine but Koop battled back to tie the match both times before taking his first lead on the eighth hole. Golder won the ninth and the duo made the turn all square.
Koop won the 10th and 11th holes to go 2-up and eventually won 2-and-1.
“Nobody ever got more than a two-up lead so it was a good match,” Koop said. “I won the 10th and 11th and then gave one back but got it back to two-up on 16 and won it on 17 with a par.”
Ah, yes…the 17th. It was a hole that tested Koop’s mindset.
“On 17, I had about 240 yards in,” said Koop, assistant coach of the Carson High School golf team. “I wound up hitting a six-iron to within about 45 yards of the green and then chipped it to a couple of feet. I could have whipped out my hybrid and tried to get there in two but then I told myself not to get into trouble. I try to tell the kids not to get yourself in worse shape than you’re in.”
He said his process has become simple.
“I’m out there for fun,” he said. “You just can’t get frustrated. I plan the shot and try to execute the shot. I can’t do anything after I hit it so what I do before is key to any success.”

Silver Net
Brent Bingham, representing Southern Nevada, added to his 2025 win total with the Silver Net crown, beating Alan Krogness, 7-and-5.
Bingham has won two SNGA titles in 2025, including his first major.
This win, his second victory in the event as he also won in 2023 when it was a 54-hole stroke play event, proves his work to improve his game is paying off.
“This was a tough course and I really played two good rounds in the match play,” he said.
But, getting to the match play proved a huge challenge.
“I didn’t think I would get to the final four at all,” Bingham said. “I double bogeyed the 17th hole and thought I was out of it. I did par the last hole for a net birdie and then found out I had made the top four. It gave me new life once I got to the match play.”
In the finale, Koop won the second, third and fourth holes to go three-up and he was off to the races.
“Today I just played really well,” Bingham said. “It wound up being a no-stress round. I thought…why can’t I do this every day.”
He said his play added pressure to Krogness’ play.
“I hit a lot of fairways and greens and when I missed the greens I almost holed out two chips,” Bingham said. “I just didn’t do anything wrong today.”
