GRAEAGLE, CA (Sept. 20, 2026)–Eight teams moved on to the finals of the Northern Region’s 2026 Team Series in a one-day event. The teams of Paul Valentin-Eric Bickel (Men’s Net), John Gleave-Canyon Gleave (Senior Men’s Net), Emily Byrne-Laura Smith and Jennifer Banks-Wendy Boyce (Women’s Net tie) and Connie Wharton-Patty Evans (Senior Women’s Net) posted the low scores in the event held Sept. 20, 2026, at Plumas Pines Golf Resort.–by Bill Bowman
Those five teams, along with the teams of Ryan Cadaret-Sam Bruketta (Men’s Net), Alan Krogness-Dennis Rash (Men’s Senior Net) and Elaine Simpson-Pennie Frank (Women’s Senior Net) now advance to the finals which are set for Oct. 3, 2026, at Graeagle.
Men’s Net
A pair of net eagles and a net birdie by Paul Valentin to go along with a couple of net birdies by partner Eric Bickel helped the team earn the top spot in the Men’s Net.
“As a team we complimented each other well,” Bickel said. “If he was struggling on a hole it seemed like I was dialed in and if I was struggling it seemed like he was dialed in. There was only one hole where we both kind of struggled so it was a solid round.”
Bickel added the team is looking forward to the finale.
“It’s going to be exciting,” he said. “This year we’ve done pretty well as a team so it’s great to be in the finals.”
The duo of Ryan Cadaret and Sam Bruketta also moved on, recording a plus-one round.
Senior Men’s Net
John Gleave and Canyon Gleave, a father and son team, had an eight-birdie, no-bogey round in winning the Senior Men’s Net title.
The eight birdies included two natural and six net.
“It was a good time and it was great to play with my son,” John Gleave said. “We just tried to stay as steady as we could and not let any big scores pop up. Canyon made a couple of long putts for bogey when we needed them that really helped us.”
Also moving on to the finale is the team of Alan Krogness and Dennis Rash.
Women’s Net
There was a tie for the low spot in the Women’s Net as the teams of Emily Byrne-Laura Smith and Jennifer Banks-Wendy Boyce advance to the finale with one-under-par scores.
Byrne and Smith posted three natural birdies over the first four holes to open the back nine en route to their one-under total while Banks and Boyce recorded four straight birdies over that same stretch (one natural and three net).
Senior Women’s Net
Three net eagles helped Connie Wharton and Patty Evans win the Senior Women’s Net Division by eight strokes.
The duo had a roller-coaster day as they posted numbers from a ‘2’ to a ‘9’ on their scorecard.
The team of Elaine Simpson and Pennie Frank also moved on to the finals.
