Newman defeated Mailee Nguyen by six shots to win the overall net title.

“I love competing, and this is a great honor to win a Nevada state title,” Newman said. “My short game really was the key. I could not get on the greens, but getting up and down many times was a big one for me. I absolutely love Boulder Creek. We played this course a half a dozen times in the last year. It’s always in great condition. I love the staff, super friendly, very golf-oriented. We love this golf course.”

Morrison was thrilled with the event and ecstatic to talk about her victory, and a refound putting stroke. Plus, the vibes and quality of Boulder Creek.

“I putted like a champion,” Morrison said. “I’ve been in a huge putting slump. I took an old putter out of the bag, and stayed steady with my putting the whole time. Putting won it for me. It’s a new putter in my bag, but an old putter in my closet, and putting is all about confidence. My old putter, I had no confidence looking down at it. I found a putting stroke that worked for me at short distances and longer ones, and it’s been brilliant.

“The course is in absolutely, probably the most amazing condition of any golf course right now. The fact that they can keep it like this and continue to host these events over and over and keep the paying conditions pristine for us, I can’t say enough about Boulder Creek.”

So I had no expectations, but I do love this particular course and it fits my eye very well, so I was able to play within myself and get it done. It means a lot. This is my third stage of major, and they’re always surprising and appreciated. know, It confirms why I love the sport and continue playing it.”
