Grant McKay overcame a bogey-bogey start and finished with a four-under-par 68 round and a two-stroke victory in the Championship Division.
After a par on the third hole, McKay birdied seven of the final 15 holes in posting his third win of 2026. McKay is the Director of Tournament Golf for the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association.
McKay said the start wasn’t great, but he turned things around quickly.
“Throughout the entire year I’ve had moments when I’ve had my ball-striking get away from me,” he said. “And I had a couple of loose shots early. I kept scrambling and making some putts that let me post the best score I could.”
He said his seven birdies for the round came in a variety of ways.
“I hit a couple of good wedge shots that lent themselves to birdies but I also made a couple of longer-range putts,” he said. “Overall, it was pretty solid.”
He said his golf rounds are usually an adventure.
“That’s what’s so cool about golf,” he said. “There’s always room to improve every element of your game. Sometimes things go as planned but there are certainly other times where you might struggle. It’s just a matter of making adjustments to get everything in your game to work as well as possible.”

Two eagles, one on each nine, propelled John Bobroski to his third win of 2026 as he won the Senior Division by two strokes.
“Those were my best shots, let’s put it that way,” Bobroski said with a laugh about his eagles. “I made a double bogey on the previous par-3 and then hit a great hybrid to eight-feet and made the eagle. It was a ‘5’ and a ‘3’ but in the wrong order.”
Bobroski said his overall game was pretty solid…except on the greens.
“I was swinging the club pretty well,” he said. “But I left a bunch of putts shorts.”
Bobroski said his second hole proved to be one of the keys to the win.
“I chipped in for birdie on No. 2 after I hit it way left into the desert,” he said. “I holed it from about 40 yards so that got me going.”
He then returned to his putting.
“I’m not comfortable with my short putts,” he said. “I had four three-putts so I definitely want to get a little more confident.”
In the end, Bobroski said the day perfectly summed up his game.
“That’s the game of golf,” he said. “One thing works and you struggle with another. It just takes work. Practice, practice, practice.”

Ron Harwood was three-under-par in a two-hole stretch (an eagle and a birdie) early in the back nine in coasting to a 10-stroke victory.
Harwood, who won who five times in 2025, won for the first time in 2026.
“I’ve been struggling a little,” Harwood said. “I changed my irons…I changed my driver. I’m still trying to get used to them but I’m starting to play a little better.”
Harwood was three-over after the front nine before his eagle-birdie run early on the back nine.
“That really started getting things going,” he said. “I tried to focus on hitting fairways and greens. I missed a couple of early putts but hit a good shot to make a par on nine and it all started coming around.”
Harwood said he was most impressed with the course.
“Hats off to the golf staff,” he said. “The course was in really, really good shape and these were the best greens I’ve played all year.”

Lawrence Rehberg posted a pair of net eagles over the first five holes en route to his first Nevada Golf Southern Region crown.
“It was a good day today,” Rehberg said. “I made a couple of good putts early.”
Rehberg had a different outlook when it came to his net eagles.
“To me, they were just birdies,” he said. “I didn’t really look at the scorecard at all. I just tried to focus on hitting the middle of the fairway, hit it on the green, two-putt and move on.”
He accomplished his goal…most of the time.
“It’s a tough course,” he said. “If you get in the wrong position or in the waste areas, it’s a challenge.”
Rehberg said his play on the greens made the difference.
“The greens were in great shape,” he said. “I think I only had one three-putt. I was stroking the ball pretty well.”
He added his start helped set the table.
“I made a birdie (net eagle) on the first hole and said ‘Let’s go,’ ” he said. “I didn’t know how I was going to play the rest of the way but it was definitely a good start.”
