Beautiful SouthShore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas hosted the prestigious 2025 Nevada State Women’s Senior Amateur, and eight golfers earned titles, led by overall champions Ronda Henderson and Gabrielle Buonacorsi.
Henderson, the reigning women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association Player of the Year, who plays out of Reflection Bay Golf Club, won the senior gross division for the third straight time.
“I fought my way around the golf course,” Henderson said. “I made a few bad club selections off the tee yesterday that didn’t get me in trouble, but just didn’t leave me in an ideal spot. … Other than that, it was just more controlling my ball flight and controlling my distance really well. I really wanted this one. I successfully defended my title last year, but to win three in a row, it just makes it that much more special.”
Buonacorsi, an Anthem Country Club member, won the overall net title by finishing at even par, adjusted.
“I played within myself. I didn’t take any great chances, but I played good solid golf and managed the golf course and truly managed my emotions and expectations.,” she said. “It’s was so much fun to play. The course was wonderful. The company was awesome and I always like this event.”
Other champions were Chin Yim from the SNGA for business women in the 50 to 59 gross division and Helen Welsh from Red Rock Country Club in the net 50 to 59. In the 60 to 69 Division, Canyon Gate Country Club member Monica Ledes won the gross division and BB Harvey from the Chimera Women’s Golf Association won net. Karen Herness, also from the Chimera Women’s Golf Golf Association, won the 70 plus gross division, while Peggy Gore from Dragon Ridge Country Club won net.
“For senior women golfers in Nevada, this is our major,” Henderson said. “Anytime you can win the biggest tournament for your age group that’s significant. And then when you look at the trophy and look at some of the names on the trophy, some of those ladies there were just powerhouses. To be included in that group of, of winners is truly special.”
