The women representing the Northern Nevada Golf Association raced out to an early lead in the 2025 Silver Cup and breezed to a 27-13 point victory. The win snapped the South’s winning streak at two in the yearly tournament. The event featured a Solheim Cup type format with four-ball matchups, foursome matchups and singles matches.

The North opened up 2025 just like it did in 2024, with a resounding victory in the foursome matches. In 2024 it was 6-4 for the North. This year it was the North winning by a 6½-3½ score.

But, unlike 2024 when the South won the ensuing four-ball matches 9-1, the North posted the big win this year, recording an 8-2 victory.

That left the North with a with a huge edge, 14½-5½ points, heading into the singles finale.

The North finished off the win with a 12½-7½ victory in the singles matches with 11 of the final 12 matches finishing in half-point ties.

Jeannie Cassinelli, co-captain along with Lori Elliot, said making sure the North got back in the win column was definitely a motivating factor.

“We have been waiting to celebrate a win for the last two years,” Cassinelli said. “They beat us last year at Canyon Gate (in Vegas) and beat us two years ago at Dayton. We were bound and determined to win that trophy this year.”

And win it they did…and convincingly.

“We came out and got 6½ points (out of 10) the first day,” Cassinelli said. “The second day I was a little worried but we wound up with eight points. I studied their players for months and studied my players and put some pairings together that worked great. I’m very pleased with the way the pairings came out.”

She added that heading into Day 2, there was still a little apprehension.

“I often think it’s going to go well but then you never know what might happen,” she said. “The second day the wind and rain came in and it was cold. It wasn’t very comfortable but we played it one shot at a time.”

Next on the agenda is winning the 2026 Silver Cup when it is held back in Vegas.

“Everyone is on a real high right now,” Cassinelli said. “We’ll look at building a team that will keep the momentum going. We know the South will be out for blood but we’re going to go down there and give them our best shot.”

Debbie Love, co-captain with Autumn Dorini, said the North team came out firing on all cylinders.

“The quality of golf from both teams was terrific,” Love said. “Some of our players didn’t perform as well as they usually do but give (the North) credit…they played great. I thought we would bounce back but we just didn’t.”

Love added the South tried to overcome the weather factor but came up short.

“The weather was really something for us,” she said. “We can’t use it as an excuse because both teams had to play in it. But, it was 85 and sunny for the practice round and then the days we play it was not so nice. And Day 2 weather was worse. It was rainy, windy and cold. The course also played hard and the greens were tough to read. A little more practice for us and things might have been different. This year we were just outplayed.”

Now it’s on to the 2026 event.

“We will definitely be motivated for next year,” Love said. “We’ll work a little harder. We want that cup back. Being at home will certainly help. It’s tough to win on the other team’s home course and we want to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

The 2026 Silver Cup will be held in Las Vegas. Dates and a course will be decided at a later time.
