MEN’S

Senior Scratch

Michael Dillon played 15 of his 18 holes in three-over-par in winning the Senior Scratch Division.

It was Dillon’s first Nevada Golf Northern Region title.

“I played pretty solid golf except for three holes,” Dillon said. “I went quadruple bogey, triple bogey and double bogey. And these were three of the easier holes on the course.”

But he kept a positive attitude.

“I’m very happy with the way I played,” he said. “Even the first ball I hit when I had the quad, I thought it was in bounds and I was in good shape. But, that’s the way golf goes. I did hang in there and turn it around and I’m very happy with that.”

He said playing in the tournament was a good way to start the year.

“I’ve been working hard this past year on my game,” he said. “There are a lot of good players here…and in the South…and I’m looking forward to competing against them as the year goes on.”

Ted Bolstad played a three-hole stretch in four-under-par (two net birdies and a net eagle) in racing to an eight-stroke win in the Senior Net Division.

“It’s crazy,” he said with a laugh. “I’ve never played that well in my life. Maybe I should quit while I’m ahead.”

He said the flat stick carried the day.

“I made two birdie putts over 20 feet and one from about 40 feet,” he said. “The ball just kept finding the hole. I just had an amazing day.”

He said he’s seen this movie before.

“The stars aligned for me,” he said. “I felt like the pastor in ‘Caddyshack’. I thought that sooner or later the rain would come and I’d be struck by lightning but it didn’t happen.”

In the end, he fired a 77 gross score.

“It’s been 30 years since I broke 80,” Bolstad said. “And that day was the same thing…everything just worked out perfectly.”

Bill King, Stephen Sprinkel and Pete Maendle all carded two-over-par 73s in sharing the Silver Senior Net title.

King played an 11-hole stretch in three-under-par (three net birdies).

Sprinkel had back-to-back net birdies as well as a natural birdie on the 18th hole.

Maendle also had back-to-back net birdies as part of his four-birdie round.

Gold Net

Augie Martinez put six net birdies on the scorecard in winning the Gold Net Division by six strokes.

“I’m very happy today,” he said. “I really didn’t think I was going to win but I knew I played well.”

Martinez said the home-course edge proved to be good.

“I won this tournament four or five years ago on this course so I must know it pretty well,” he said. “Now I’m going to get to come back next year and try to defend it.”

He said he had a game-plan and stuck to it.

“I just tried to keep my head down and not get in any trouble,” he said. “I wanted to get it in the fairway and on the green and I did that pretty well.”

WOMEN’S

Gross

Cindy Fladager is back in the winner’s circle after a couple of years without a victory.

“It’s great to be able to win again,” said Fladager who won a tournament a few years ago. “It’s nice that the first tournament was a smaller one and it was more relaxed.”

She said the victory was nice but it also gave her a chance to see the parts of her game she wants to work on.

“I was pretty rusty with my chipping early,” she said. “I practiced my putting a lot last week and did put OK so that was good.”

She said it was nice to get into tournament mode.

“It was a little cool out,” she said. “But we had a fun group of gals and that’s always good.”

Vickie Oland was two-under-par over a seven-hole stretch with a pair of net birdies in winning the women’s net title.

It was Oland’s first tournament win in the first tournament she’s played in.

“It was a lot of fun for the first time playing a tournament,” she said. “Normally I just play events at my club so this was nice to do a tournament like this and meet new people.”

Oland said her play off the tee and on the green were key.

“My driver was working good and my putting was good,” she said. “When those are working…that’s a good thing. But I still want to work on my chipping so there is certainly work to do.”
