Northern Nevada Golf Duos Win 2026 Winnemucca Team Series Men

The teams of Ben Burhans-John Weber (Net) and Ken Moore-Freddy Molina picked up victories in the 2026 Men’s Team Series at Winnemucca. The Nevada Golf Northern Region two-day, four-ball tournament was held June 13-14, 2026, at Winnemucca Golf Course.–by Bill Bowman

Ben Burhans and John Weber were right at home in winning the Net Division–literally.

Burhans and Weber are Winnemucca Golf Course members and used a strong first-round edge to win.

The duo played their first three holes of the tournament in three-under-par (net birdie and natural eagle) and added a string of three straight birdies (one natural and two net) in posting a three-stroke victory.

Weber said playing at home is a definite edge.

“We’ve won this tournament at least three times…maybe four,” he said. “We just know the course very well and know the greens.”

Weber said the eagle putt on the third hole of the opening round was a perfect example.

“The eagle putt was tough,” he said. “You miss that putt nine out of 10 times but this time it went in. If it doesn’t, you’ve got a tough five-footer coming back. When it goes in, you just smile and pull the ball out of the hole and move on.”

Weber said the team also relied on the short game to succeed.

“We made some good chips and saves…especially Saturday,” he said. “We put a lot of chips within three feet to save par. The greens here are smaller so if you miss them, you’ve got to rely on the short game to give yourself a chance.”

Weber added the team plays aggressive golf and sometimes that can lead to hiccups.

“The biggest thing for us is we have to play it a little safer sometimes,” he said with a laugh. “A lot of time we want to go for it when we should probably play it a little safer. But that’s not us. We aren’t professional golfers…we want to make something happen. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.”

Ken Moore posted an eagle both days (one natural and one net), added six net birdies and teammate Freddy Molina chipped in three net birdies to help the duo to a two-stroke win.

Moore and Molina also call Winnemucca Golf Course their home course.

“This was a great win,” Moore said. “We’ve played in a few two-day tournaments and we’re usually toward the top and then finish out of the money. This is the first time we’ve put two good days together.”

Moore said their opening holes of the second round–two-over-par through the first three holes–had them a little on edge as they sought their first team victory.

“We didn’t get off to the best of starts today and that wasn’t good,” he said. “But once we got it going, we played pretty well and kept it together.”

Moore said playing at home helped the team’s confidence.

“We play out here a couple of times a week and know you’ve got to stay in the fairways, especially with all of these trees out here,” he said. “With the tees moved up, it was a whole different view from up where we were hitting our second shots. It’s a lot more open up there.”

Now, the confidence is high.

“We played smarter golf,” Moore said. “A couple of years ago we led until the last couple of holes and then gave it away. It feels great to be able to close it out.”
