Matt Mitchell posted a four-under-par 32 over his final nine holes to rally for victory in the Championship Division.
Mitchell, who started the day four strokes off the lead, is coming off winning Medalist honors in the 2026 U.S. Open First Stage Qualifier-Southern Nevada.
Mitchell played four years of baseball for UNLV and is now working in the Las Vegas gaming industry.
“Garret (Kieffer) and Grant (McKay) were playing awesome and I was just kind of in the background floating around,” Mitchell said. “But then, around No. 10, the wind really picked up. The back nine there is more volatile as it is and with the wind it made it really tricky. I just tried to stay patient and hit good shots.”
Mission accomplished.
“I played one of the better nines that I’ve played,” Mitchell said. “I was down by a bunch so I got a little more aggressive. I made a nice birdie on 13 and they both bogeyed and that brought them more within reach. Then on 15, I didn’t hit a good drive and had 305 into the green…out of the rough. I hit a 3-wood to about 40 feet and made the putt and that tied the lead.”
He added a birdie on the par-3 17th and went on to the two-shot win.
“It all comes down to the putting,” Mitchell said. “I didn’t make any putts for the first 27 holes and then on 11, I made a 20-footer and then the 40-footer for eagle on 15. Do that and your score looks a whole lot better.”

John Bobroski rode a roller-coaster final round to a six-stroke victory in the Silver Division.
Over his first 11 holes Sunday, Bobroski had just one par on the scorecard as he recorded five birdies, the one par, three bogeys and two double bogeys.
It was Bobroski’s second win of 2026 after winning five times in 2025.
“It was quite the start today,” Bobroski said with a laugh of his early final round play. “I was a little nervous and didn’t make good swings early. I calmed down a little and it all worked out well. I hit 17 of 18 greens the first day and the final nine greens in regulation today.”
Bobroski said his game is coming together nicely…now that he’s back in the swing of things.
“I played last Thursday and I was like ‘why is my swing going inside and then outside,’ ” he said. “I changed my whole swing and it made the difference. I went back to taking it back outside and dropping it into the slot. Now it’s all coming together.”

Hendra Wijaya played his final eight holes in one-under-par in winning for the first time in Nevada Golf Southern Region play.
“This was really surprising,” he said. “I didn’t expect to win…it’s very exciting.”
He said his finish was definitely the key.
“I really played well the last nine holes,” he said. “My driver was pretty good all day. I nailed it almost every time. And my chipping and scrambling were pretty good, too.”
Wijaya said he knows there’s still work to do.
“I still want to work on my irons from 90 yards and in,” he said. “I’m just going to keep practicing and keep playing the best I can.”
He said the finish was a relief.
“Luckily the wind kicked in when we were on the 18th hole so we didn’t have to worry about that,” he said.

Steve McPherson posted six birdies in the first round and held on for a one-stroke win in the Silver Division.
It was McPherson’s second Nevada Golf Southern Region win in 2026 and he also closed out 2025 with a win, posting a victory in the 2025 Winter Classic in December.
McPherson trailed Gary Carpendale by one stroke heading into the final hole but parred the hole while Carpendale suffered a double bogey.
“Today I felt like I got lucky,” McPherson said. “I didn’t putt very well. I kind of got hot in the middle of the round with three straight birdies but overall I missed some three-, four- and five-footers. It was just kind of a ho-hum round.”
McPherson said the battle with Carpendale was a good one.
“He outplayed me the first eight holes and the last six holes but a mistake at the end (a ball in the water on 18) really cost him,” he said.
McPherson said his first day’s play gave him a lot of confidence.
“I really striped it,” he said. “I did three-putt two par 5s and hit the wrong club twice or I could have gone really low. Overall, it was a very solid round.”

Dave Golder made it back-to-back victories, winning the Silver Net Division by three strokes.
Golder posted nine birdies over the two days, two natural and seven net.
“I played the best tee-to-green golf over the last two rounds that I have played in my life,” he said. “I didn’t putt that well but everything else was working great.”
Golder said his confidence is growing with each round.
“Yesterday, I made 15 pars and three bogeys which is unheard of for me…and one of those bogeys was a three-putt,” he said. “Today was as good a round but I didn’t putt as well.”
He added his focus is also a key factor.
“A lot of it is mental,” he said. “When you start playing well, you feel like you can go out and play well. It’s all working now. I’m really happy with where my game is. It’s all kind of working right now.”

Trevor Coss recorded a net eagle en route to rallying for victory in the Net Division, winning in a scorecard playoff.
It was his first Nevada Golf Southern Region title since a victory in 2024.
“I have no idea what just happened,” he said. “I was just hoping to post a good score and get into the top three and then the two leaders struggled coming in on 18 and they told me I won in a scorecard playoff. It’s pretty wild.”
He said he also struggled on 18, but limited the damage.
“I hit it into the water,” he said. “But then I hit a wedge to about a foot-and-a-half for a bogey, net par. It was a pretty solid finish.”
He said he’s spent the last month getting his game and mindset in order.
“The last tournament at CasaBlanca I shot a 106 and thought…OK, you’ve got to make some changes,” he said. “I got new irons, a new driver and a new attitude. Now, I’m hitting everything really clean.”
Coss didn’t start the final round strong but fought back.
“I started off with a triple bogey and then bogeyed the next hole,” he said. ‘But I hung in and then made 11 pars in a row and that brought me back into it. I got the net eagle on the 14th when I had a foot-and-a-half putt for birdie that gave me the net eagle. That really got me re-focused.”
