Get Involved in Nevada Golf

Volunteers are the heart of Nevada Golf. Check out the opportunities below to get involved and join the Nevada Golf community of volunteers. Most roles need only your enthusiasm and a smile, while others offer the chance to learn new skills through training and experience.

Tournament and Event Volunteers

Many events and tournaments throughout the year request volunteers to act as tee starters, scorers, course and pace-of-play marshals, shuttle drivers, and more.

Rules Official

A Rules Official has working knowledge of the Rules of Golf and significant on-course experience. Rules Officials are authorized to decide questions of fact and apply the Rules of Golf. A Rules Official may: assist players with the Rules, set up and prepare the golf course, and be assigned as a Pace Official. Training and certification are required.

The Rules Official Training Program has been created to allow individuals who have not taken or passed the current USGA/PGA Rules of Golf exam (75/100 or 70/80), but are interested in becoming a Rules Official, to learn from seasoned Rules Officials about the Rules as well as best practices while officiating. After a Rules Trainee achieves a score of at least 75 on the 100-question exam or 70 on the 80-question exam, the final step before becoming a Rules Official is shadowing a senior-level certified Nevada Golf rules official during a championship or qualifier to learn specific procedures and best practices. Golf staff oversee this policy with each individual to make sure they are comfortable and ready to be alone on the golf course.

Course Raters

Nevada Golf rates Member Club and non-member club golf courses in accordance with the USGA? Course and Slope Rating™ System. The Nevada Golf Course Rating is comprised of Nevada Golf staff and groups of trained volunteers. When rating a golf course, the team evaluates each hole from every set of tees to gather the necessary data for each of the various obstacles.

Be a Voice of Leadership for Nevada Golf.

Leadership often starts close to home. Many members begin by volunteering at their club or serving as a club representative before joining one of Nevada Golf’s committees. Committee service is a great way to learn how the association operates, connect with fellow golfers, and contribute to the game’s growth across the state. As you gain experience, you may choose to take the next step and serve on the Board—helping guide the future of amateur golf in Nevada.
